Wednesday's Inspiration of the Day.
is all about Friendship! Although friendship is full of adventure and fun, it is beyond difficult at times. I ask, "What makes a good friend?" The answer to that question I have discovered is quite paradoxical. Let me explain myself- you see it is easy to assume that in order to be a good friend- one should always support and comfort their friend, however this is not always the case. To be a good friend sometimes one has to tell their friend what a case of nuts they are! A good friends sometimes has to hurt their friend by telling them the truth. If everything was black and white-- well being a good friend would mean you always make that person feel good. But I am afraid we live in a world of grey. And in order to uphold your friendship with someone you have to bite the bullet and tell that person how it really is. Whether they are in a bad relationship-- or doing to many party pills, or behaving like a four year old-- a good friend lets that person know what a poop head they are being. That person may cry or yell or say "you are such a shitty friend!" but in the end if you have been honest and true you just might save your friend from a world of bad news bears. yes i said, "bad news bears."
So just because America was built upon Puritan ideals which instill in all of us a sense of guilt for being honest- shake that off and tell it like it is. Because I'm here to say that good friends sometimes hurt their friends by telling the truth. Without that-- we would all be living in a "Leave it to Beaver" sort of world where the only conflict of the day would be burning a pot roast or something generic like that. Closing statement: So although friendship is fun and glamorous-- what really makes a friendship strong is not the ability to make that person happy all the time, rather it is being able to put that person's best interest first regardless of his or her reaction.
